Venue Spotlight: Old Hickory Golf Club | Woodbridge Virginia Wedding Photographer
In March, I had the pleasure of visiting Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge, VA. It was an amazing experience because this is where my husband and I were married exactly 5 years ago today. So since today is our Anniversary, I figured it would be the perfect time to walk down memory lane and to share my favorite things about Old Hickory Golf Club for this special Anniversary edition of the Venue Spotlight.
I had the opportunity to speak with the Wedding Coordinator Diane Bernbaum. She was so sweet and was so nice to show me around the property and answer my questions. So I’m going to dive right in and share about some of my favorite things about this venue and give you some insight on this beautiful place.
What’s something unique to your venue that you can’t get anywhere else?
The great thing about Old Hickory is its versatility. It’s such a big open space that can be transformed into anything you want. The main ballroom opens up to a beautiful balcony that overlooks the golf course. The large glass doors open up so you can have an indoor/ outdoor feel to your reception. The space has such a unique charm. The décor has a “rustic, turn-of-the century style décor, with elegance. The space has so many possibilities and can be transformed to fit your vision for your day.
Old Hickory Golf Club is so gorgeous. It’s been 5 years since I’ve been to the venue and although so much has changed, I still got that excited feeling that I felt when I saw it for the first time. When I got married they had carpet throughout the venue with the exception of the dance floor. Now, there are beautiful hardwood floors throughout. It’s been freshly painted and the ballroom is nice and bright. The paint really accentuates the beautiful high ceilings.
Do you book more than one event at the same time?
The great thing about Old Hickory is that you don’t have to worry about there being another event happening at the same time as your wedding. They only book one event at a time. So you have full access to the property without the possibility of running into another wedding party.
Do you have space for both the bride and groom to get ready?
As a Virginia Wedding photographer, it is a huge bonus if there is a private area for both the bride and groom to get ready. Traffic is a huge factor in the Northern Virginia area and having everyone in one place really ensures that you don’t have to deal with the possibility of being delayed due to traffic. It just makes the day run more smoothly knowing that I don’t’ have to travel between to different locations. Old Hickory has a private bridal suite and grooms suite to get ready.
How far in advance would you suggest couple’s book you?
The most popular months for getting married are between May and October. So if you plan on getting married in one of those months, it’s best to book your date about a year in advance. And not to worry if you’re getting married during that time frame and you haven’t booked your wedding venue, as long as the date is available, Old Hickory can accommodate your wedding day needs. They’ve hosted a wedding with as little as 2 weeks notice. They’re amazing!
Do you have an on-site coordinator?
Yes. Diane is awesome and she serves as the on-site wedding coordinator. Not only do they have an on-site coordinator they have an entire staff that can accommodate all of your needs. The staff is super friendly and everything is in one place. Old Hickory also provides tables, chairs, linens, silverware, glassware, candles, etc. Everything you need for a perfect wedding day.
Do you have on-site catering?
Yes! After our wedding, one of the biggest things our guests raved about was the food. They couldn’t stop talking about how amazing the food was. They have an amazing menu and a huge variety of options for you to choose and can accommodate different types of cuisines. Trust me you won’t be disappointed. I know first hand how delicious it is. :)
Do most brides/ grooms tend to prefer indoor or outdoor ceremonies?
Outdoor ceremonies are very popular. If you plan to get married at Old Hickory, there are some amazing options. They have 4 different ceremony locations where you can get married. The most popular area to get married is the area overlooking the 18th hole, which is where I got married. I loved it because they have a beautiful grand stairwell that you walk down. It’s the perfect grand entrance for a bride. :)
Where are some popular places to take photos?
There are tons of beautiful options for photos. If you decide to get married at Old Hickory you have access to their beautiful golf course and the surrounding areas to take photos. If your style is more rustic there is a cute barn door that is a popular place to take pictures. The property also has beautiful spaces on the golf course. The possibilities are endless.
Do you have a backup plan for rainy days?
Yes! I know no one wants to think about the possibility of rain on his or her wedding day, but it is a necessary precaution to plan for. If it were to rain on your wedding day then you have the option of getting married inside the beautiful ballroom or on the balcony overlooking the 18th hole.
What’s the largest amount of guests you can accommodate?
Not to worry if you have a large guest list. Old Hickory can accommodate up to 240 guests.
It was such a great experience revisiting the place where it all started. Old Hickory Golf Club was and is an amazing venue. And if I could do it all over again, I would definitely choose to have my wedding there. Happy Anniversary Derek!
